Is Aqua Weal fare Society a member or a partner of your organization? If is your partner what challenges do you always face working with partners? How do you manage to handle the challenges so that project implementation is not affected? It can be of greater advantage to us when we plan to work with partners.

Thanks for the question. Aqua Welfare Society is a partner of Project Well. One of the board members of AWS is a co-founder of Project Well and in 2002 one member has done part of his PhD thesis on dugwells. AWS can be also regarded as an extension of Project Well. Hence challenges that were/are there are resolved through discussions and understandings. Initially Project Well collaborated with a NGO and decided to dissociate and operate on thier own for one year until formation of AWS in 2005. Todays internet and cheap phone (cell) calls have made it very easy to keep track on the progress of work in the field. Contact directly with the field supervisor is done atleast twice a month and he can access email via cell phone for any urgent request of data or report. One of the field workers (female) is experienced enough to become the field office manager who will be responsible to manage various types of the data starting in August because the number of dugwells and consumers is growing. And in my opinion surveillance program is essential to obtain sustainability of any program. The group is small now and hence manageable that will grow one day and without any computer program it would be hard to keep track of who is doind what and where. With AWS we can set the program including surveillance program fresh instead of trying to reform an old NGO.

Another excellent detailed proposal.
In your budget spreadsheet it says 21k from private donors has been secured. Then is not the amount being asked for reversed?
Thanks,
Rajesh

Ooooops! You are right. Sorry for the confusion. The amont on the application is correct. From private donors the amount would be 5266, kinldy rectified if possible on the submitted/uploaded excel sheet. Thank you.

With such excellent technical analysis and work (baselining and bi-annual water analysis), what is missing is the human element.
After working with this solution for a few years, can you provide interviews, photos, and narratives on how people's lives have changed? In the case of new projects: how did people hear of the arsenic problem, your solution, and how they would like their problem to be resolved?
Other than the very visible cases of arsenicosis, it would be nice to see people addressing this problem as preventable.
Interviews with photos are always welcome to a funding agency.
Thanks,
Rajesh
ps: you need to only update your profile, no need to replicate it in all your applications
pps: also putting in large files with photos in the application that show the results of earlier projects defeats the purpose of PWX. We have all the project reports and photos (or should have!). If we don't please add status report to the projects with the data and photos that your file contains. The project info belongs there, not in the application!

Thanks for pointing out where to insert the reports of the past projects. Wonderful. We have many video clippings but we are working on them including translation, dubbing, subtitles, etc. I can go ahead and upload one or today now without applying finishing touches. Hope to work on them later.
The bi-annual water analysis is only done if there are any complaints. In so many years only one dugwell was re-tested for bacteria after one family claimed that they fell sick due to the dugwell water. The fact was ruled out after the report was found to be negative. Every year arsenic analysis is done of all the dugwells and bacteriological tests are done only once, after new construction. However this year along with the new dugwells bacteriological analysis will be done of 10 dugwells constructed before. The dugwells will be selected at random. This is to see the efficacy of the disinfectant.

With such a high population density and the use of shallow dugwells, the human waste issue should become a source of contamination.
While the use of chlorine to disinfect is fine, what are you doing to locate sanitation facilities further away or introduce eco-san and hu-manuring practices?
By Project Well Posted on Tue 22 Jul 2008, almost 18 years ago
Selection of site procedures take most time. The density of population in Gaighata is not as bad as seen in most areas of Bangladesh. One of the locational criteria is that the toilets should be 100 feet away from the site. This could be done so far. Sunny spot by the road (often dirt pathway) is best and we have found that it does not work if there is a small ditch or pond (which sometimes used for rotting of jute in October) of stagnated water that results in foul smell in the water. I am interested in eco-san and hu-manuring practices but not sure how long it would take to educate and change the thought process of the people with their traditional beliefs and customs. We will definitely consider the issue as we encounter the problem.
Thank you.
(There is some problem with submit. I did not submit at all it shows as three times, this might have sent out three emails. This time I am submitting and will be the fourth email, Hope not. It is some kind of a glich perhaps that need to be fixed. sorry!! and the reply button from the query above and below are no longer there. Perhaps they will return when I sign back fresh.)
