Project Narrative

The village is 45 km away from the district head quarter. Due to its remoteness and far off distance from the head quarter, it is being neglected by the Government Development Agencies / Departments. The total geographical area is 505.15 ha.

So far the Government has not taken steps to solve the drinking water problem except for making a provision of water tanker. Providing drinking water through tanker every year in summer is a temporary solution and irregular too. One can not guarantee that every alternate day they will receive drinking water through tanker regularly and on time. Therefore, the women's Self Help Group have come forward and have taken initiative to implement the drinking water project in their village with the help of WOTR and BPR. The villagers with the help of social map and resource map derived from Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) has decided to initiate the proposed drinking water project, and have identified the permanent water-source.

It is planned that a new drinking water well will be excavated below the Percolation Tank at about 100 mtrs distance from the village. The well water will be lifted through pipeline and will be stored in storage tank which will be constructed in the village. The water will be supplied through the construction of 10 stand posts. The owner of the land Shri Indersingh Asaram Badure has donated a plot of 2000 sq. ft. to the village community for digging of well. The people are willing to contribute 15% of the total cost. They have submitted all the required documents. The Gram Panchayat (village body) has given no objection certificate to this effect.

It will be done in one phase. The total amount required for completion of the activity will be given to the Water Committee in 3-4 installments. After the monitoring of the work done against the installment given the next instalment will be released

-General Body Village meetings were held several times with the villagers to discuss the problems and immediate needs of the village.
-A Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was conducted to determine the available infrastructure, resources and the social locations of the households.
-Organisation of women has been done by involving them into Self Help Groups. These groups were federated under the Apex Body of all SHGS which is called the Samyukta Mahila Samitee (SMS).
-The SHGs and the SMS have taken the initiative to solve the drinking water problem. The designing and the initial planning has been done with the help of Village Development Committee and with the support of Gram Panchayat (local elected village body).
-The plan has been technically approved with some minor modifications by WOTR's technical engineers.
-All the households have agreed to contribute 15% of the total cost of the project Before the initiation of the activity, a separate Water Committee (Pani Samitee) of the women will be formed. The Water Committee and the SMS will be responsible for the implementation, supervision, quality control and monitoring of the activity which they have willing accepted to do.
-The project funds will be deposited directly in the Water Committee's bank account. The Committee will handle all the transactions and will be responsible for the accounts.
-Two trainings will be conducted for the SMS and the Water Committee regarding the safe drinking water, health, hygiene and sustenance of the project after completion.
-After completion of the activity, a water tax will be collected from each household as per Maintenance Revenue Model attached.

1. Regular health and hygiene education will be imparted to the SMS (apex body of SHGs) and the SHG members by WOTR officials.
2. The capacity building of the Water Committee and the SMS will be done through trainings.
3.The self employment opportunities will be provided to the SHG members through micro credit and bank linkages
